JP Mene' (pronounced: Men-ay) is one of the
finest animal sculptors of all time. He displayed his work in the salons of
Paris in the middle 1800's. He won four medals for his work including the Cross
of the Legion d'Honneur in 1861. He was influenced by the French painter Carl
Vennet and English painter Landseer. He became the most important and influenced
animalier of his time. This would make an awesome gift for a horse lover.
In this piece Mene' captures the pride and
strength of a full grown stallion. The prance in his legs and the cock of
the head bring that sense of realism and grace that made Mene' famous.
We actually carry 4 different sizes of this
sculpture reproduction. The smallest is 12" tall x 14" long. It is a
nice size for a table top or bookshelf. Weighs 35 pounds.Â
The next larger desktop size is 17" tall x 18"
wide. This is a very substantial piece of bronze work and can easily be a
centerpiece. Weights 50 pounds.
Available in several finishes (patina).Â
The "standard" way is with a gold-tone body and dark-brown main, tail and socks.Â
We also do it in the all dark brown (almost black) color as shown in the
pictures. That is stunning as well.Â
