Frederic Remington's "Cheyenne" marked a change in the way he depicted motion in his bronze horse sculptures. After research conducted by Eadweard Muybridge, photographs were produced which clearly indicated that all four legs of the horse were off the ground during a galloping stride. These high speed stop action photographs were published in Muybridge's book "Animals in Motion" in 1881. Remington worked to create fluid motion in his sculptures.
